Iron Gates

Iron Gates is a novel published in 2014 by Martinet Press, the publishing arm of Tempel ov Blood, the primary American nexion (cell) of the Order of Nine Angles (O9A). Authored under the collective O9A identity rather than an individual author name, the book depicts a post-collapse race war and mass genocide through graphic ultraviolent content, including scenes of extreme sexual violence, torture, and mass killing, framed within O9A's Insight Roles doctrine as spiritually meaningful transgression. It became required reading within Atomwaffen Division following Joshua Caleb Sutter's 2017 infiltration of AWD's leadership, and through Terrorgram Collective channels it reached the broader accelerationist ecosystem, making it the most widely distributed and cited of the Martinet Press catalog.¹

Content and O9A Doctrine

Iron Gates deploys ultraviolent narrative content in service of O9A's core ideological arguments: that transgression against social norms is a form of spiritual initiation, that a race war is both desirable and inevitable, and that the committed initiate should view acts of extreme violence as spiritually necessary rather than morally illegible. The novel's scenes of mass killing, child abuse, and sexual violence are not incidental to its purpose; they function as the O9A equivalent of doctrinal instruction, normalizing the contemplation and enactment of Insight Roles through narrative immersion.

The book was the O9A's most effective tool for reaching audiences beyond the organization's dedicated occultist base, including AWD members who had come to O9A through the Siege accelerationist tradition rather than through genuine interest in occultism. Its extreme content generated significant attention from researchers and journalists covering AWD and O9A, and its circulation contributed substantially to academic and law enforcement recognition of Tempel ov Blood as an operational radicalization resource rather than merely an ideological curiosity.²

Publication and Distribution History

Iron Gates was published by Joshua Caleb Sutter and his wife Jillian Hoy through Martinet Press in 2014, several years before the 2017 AWD infiltration that gave it its widest audience. In a significant paradox documented by investigative reporting, the costs of publishing Iron Gates and other Martinet Press titles were partially funded by Sutter's FBI informant payments, totaling more than $140,000 between 2003 and at least 2021. The FBI was simultaneously paying Sutter for intelligence work, including infiltrating AWD, while those funds supported the publication of a text that radicalized the AWD members Sutter was infiltrating.³

Following AWD's internal adoption of Iron Gates as required reading, the text was distributed through Terrorgram Collective's Telegram channels to an accelerationist audience far larger than either Martinet Press or AWD's own networks could reach independently. Through this secondary distribution the book reached individuals with no prior AWD or O9A connection who encountered it as part of a broader diet of accelerationist propaganda.

Legal and Policy Status

Iron Gates has been the subject of law enforcement attention in multiple jurisdictions. In the United Kingdom, distributing the text has been prosecuted under terrorism statutes as distributing material useful to terrorist purposes, consistent with the UK's broader approach to O9A material. In the United States, Iron Gates has been cited in multiple federal prosecutions as evidence of a defendant's ideological commitments and radicalization state, including cases arising from AWD and Tempel ov Blood activities.²
