Festival Bar

The Festival Bar was an Amsterdam establishment operating as a boy brothel that was identified in Dutch pedophile network investigations of the 1990s as a venue frequented by Karel Maasdam and members of the broader Dutch-Belgian child abuse network; it appears in this vault through its documentation in the Rolodex Investigation and the testimony of witnesses connected to the Marc Dutroux affair.

The Festival Bar was an Amsterdam establishment that operated as a commercial child sexual exploitation venue - specifically a "boy brothel" providing minors to adult clients. It was identified in Dutch law enforcement investigations of the 1990s as a location frequented by participants in the organized pedophile network investigated under the Rolodex Investigation (Rolodex-onderzoek).1

Connection to the Rolodex Investigation

The Festival Bar was documented as a frequented venue of Karel Maasdam and persons associated with his "Bell Boys" callboy service. Maasdam, who operated under the alias "Alex Privee," used the Bell Boys network to supply minors to a clientele that Dutch investigators identified as including professionals, academics, and individuals with international connections to the Belgian and other European pedophile networks investigated in connection with the Marc Dutroux affair.

Henry Hans Holthuis, a Dutch figure investigated in connection with the Rolodex investigation, was associated with a Professor Van Roon who frequented the Festival Bar. The venue thus served as an intersection point between the organized commercial exploitation network centered on Maasdam and the broader social network of individual clients identified through the Rolodex investigation's subscriber and client lists.

Robert Jan Warmerdam, a witness whose testimony linked the Dutch networks to Belgium, testified in connection with venues including the Festival Bar. Warmerdam claimed knowledge of both Robbie Van Der Plancken and Marc Dutroux, placing himself and others in the context of venues used by the broader cross-border network.2

Context Within Dutch-Belgian Networks

The Festival Bar's documentation is significant within the vault's analysis of how organized child abuse networks operated transnationally across the Netherlands and Belgium in the 1980s-1990s. The venue represents a commercial node - an establishment from which exploited minors were made available to paying clients - as distinct from the private abuse parties and distribution networks (like the Zandvoort Apollo BBS) that characterized other nodes in the same network. The co-presence of Maasdam's Bell Boys supply infrastructure and the Festival Bar's client-facing commercial operation in the same Amsterdam milieu reflects the organizational structure of commercial child exploitation described by investigators and witnesses in the broader Dutroux-X-Dossier investigation.1
