Joseph McCarthy was a U.S. Senator known for his anti-communist crusade in the 1950s. Clint Murchison, Sr. was an ardent supporter of McCarthy. McCarthy was a frequent visitor to the exclusive Hotel Del Charro in La Jolla, California, which Murchison, Sr. opened in the early 1950s. He was often seen there alongside Richard Nixon and J. Edgar Hoover.1
