Zener Cards

Zener Cards are a deck of five cards, each bearing a distinct symbol (a circle, square, wavy lines, cross, and star).

Zener Cards are a deck of five cards, each bearing a distinct symbol (a circle, square, wavy lines, cross, and star). They were developed by parapsychologist Karl Zener in the early 1930s and are primarily used in parapsychological experiments to test for ESP (extrasensory perception).1

In these experiments, a sender concentrates on a card, and a receiver attempts to identify the symbol without any sensory cues. The results are then statistically analyzed to determine if the number of correct guesses significantly exceeds what would be expected by chance. J. B. Rhine extensively used Zener cards in his experiments at the Duke University Parapsychology Laboratory.1

Zener cards were also used in various government-sponsored psychic research programs, including Andrija Puharich's experiments with Eileen Garrett and Edgar Mitchell's secret mind-to-mind telepathy experiment during the Apollo 14 mission.1
