[Nezar Hindawi](/people/nezar-hindawi/) was instructed to meet with a Syrian intelligence officer at the embassy, leading him to believe his actions were for the Arab cause. Following the foiled plot, [Margaret Thatcher's](/people/margaret-thatcher/) government closed down the embassy in London.[^1]
