Colonel [Yoel Ben-Porat](/people/yoel-ben-porat/), known as Buffy, was the unit commander of [Unit 8200](/organizations/unit-8200/), an [Israeli](/places/israel/) Signals Intelligence (Sigint) unit. He later became a brigadier general and was appointed official spokesman of the [Israeli Defense Forces](/places/israel/).[^1]

[Buffy](/people/yoel-ben-porat/) was involved in the cover-up of the [Lockheed](/organizations/lockheed-aircraft-company/) bribe scandal involving [Shimon Peres](/people/shimon-peres/), after [Ari Ben-Menashe](/people/ari-ben-menashe/) intercepted a telegram detailing the bribe. He ordered the original telegram, translation, and log to be erased and transferred the young woman working with [Ari Ben-Menashe](/people/ari-ben-menashe/) to another unit.[^1]
