Will Henshall is a science and technology reporter who was placed at *[Time](/organizations/time/)* from 2023 to 2024 through the fellowship of the [Tarbell Center for AI Journalism](/organizations/tarbell-center-for-ai-journalism/), and who joined Coefficient Giving, the renamed [Open Philanthropy](/organizations/open-philanthropy/), as a program officer for AI governance and policy in July 2024.[^1][^2]

### Career

Tarbell's fellow page describes him as a science and technology reporter based in [New York City](/places/new-york-city/) who holds a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Oxford and a master's in public policy from [Harvard](/organizations/harvard-university/)'s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and who had worked as a management consultant and policy researcher.[^1] Coefficient Giving's team page gives the same degrees, and records that before joining in July 2024 he had worked as an editorial fellow at *Time* and as an associate consultant at Bain & Company.[^2]

Tarbell's ethics policy states that as of 2025 "the majority of our funding originates with a single funder, Coefficient Giving (formerly known as Open Philanthropy)." Open Philanthropy recommended 575,000 dollars in September 2023 for the Tarbell Fellowship, then run under the fiscal sponsor Training for Good, and 816,000 dollars to the Tarbell Center in November 2024.[^3][^4][^5]
