[Tommy Marson](/people/tommy-marson/) was a known [Gambino Crime Family](/organizations/gambino-crime-family/) associate. He was observed by the Indio Police Department in August 1981 meeting with [Dr. John Philip Nichols](/people/dr-john-philip-nichols/), the Cabazon Administrator, and other [La Cosa Nostra](/organizations/la-cosa-nostra/) underworld figures. These meetings were believed to involve financial transactions. Marson reportedly lent [Dr. John Philip Nichols](/people/dr-john-philip-nichols/) $50,000 to start the [Cabazon Indian Reservation](/places/cabazon-indian-reservation/), the first Indian card room in the nation.[^1]
