[Richard Hanna](/people/richard-hanna/) was the Assistant Chief of the [CHP](/organizations/california-highway-patrol/). He reported that the collision involving a Mariposa County Sheriff's vehicle and a Secret Service car occurred at 10:50 a.m. on March 5, 1983, between Coulterville and La Grange on Highway 132, about 25 minutes ahead of Queen Elizabeth II's motorcade.[^1]
