[Kermit Roosevelt](/people/kermit-roosevelt/) was a [CIA](/organizations/central-intelligence-agency/) officer who, along with [Miles Copeland](/people/miles-copeland/), helped the [Iranian](/places/iran/) military restore the [Shah](/people/mohammad-reza-pahlavi/) of [Iran](/places/iran/) to power in 1953. This occurred after the [Shah](/people/mohammad-reza-pahlavi/) had been overthrown by [Mohammed Mossadegh](/people/mohammed-mossadegh/) during the turmoil that followed the nationalization of [Iranian](/places/iran/) oil.[^1]
