[James V. Desarno, Jr.](/people/james-v-desarno-jr/) was an Assistant Special Agent in Charge from the D.C. Metropolitan Office of the [FBI](/organizations/federal-bureau-of-investigation/). He was present at [Paul Wilcher](/people/paul-wilcher/)'s apartment after Wilcher's death. Desarno, along with [Craig Olson](/people/craig-olson/), was one of two [FBI](/organizations/federal-bureau-of-investigation/) agents present at the scene. Despite his presence, Desarno strongly denied that the [FBI](/organizations/federal-bureau-of-investigation/) was interested in or involved in the case, repeatedly stating, "We are not interested in this case."[^1]
