[Idi Amin](/people/idi-amin/) was the self-proclaimed president of [Uganda](/places/uganda/). He was installed in a military coup planned and led by former [Israeli](/places/israel/) military attaché Col. Baruch Bar Lev. Relations between [Israel](/places/israel/) and [Amin](/people/idi-amin/) were at their lowest at the time of the 1976 [Entebbe hijacking](/events/entebbe-hijacking/).[^1]

Relations between [Israel](/places/israel/) and [Uganda](/places/uganda/) deteriorated after [Col. Muammar Qaddafi](/people/muammar-qaddafi/) of [Libya](/places/libya/) promised money to black African nations if they cut ties with [Israel](/places/israel/). Despite this, [Amin](/people/idi-amin/) still wore the paratrooper's wings bestowed on him by the [Israeli](/places/israel/) military during his training in [Israel](/places/israel/).[^1]
