Divesh Makan
Former Goldman Sachs broker who met Mark Zuckerberg in 2004, heads the investment adviser ICONIQ Capital, and sits as a director of Dustin Moskovitz and Cari Tuna's Good Ventures Foundation.
Divesh Makan is one of the principals of ICONIQ Capital, LLC, an investment adviser registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission since December 1, 2011; its brochure of March 2026 names "Divesh Makan, Michael Anders, Will Griffith and Matthew Jacobson" as its partners.1 In December 2014 Forbes, giving his age as 41, described the firm as "his otherwise run-of-the-mill registered investment advisory," turned into "an exclusive members-only Silicon Valley billionaires club that operates as a cross between a family office and a venture capital fund."2
Zuckerberg and the Client Roster
Forbes called Mark Zuckerberg Makan's "most famous client and the key to his success," and wrote that Makan met him "in 2004 when he was a broker at Goldman Sachs." Other clients it named were "Facebook's Dustin Moskovitz and Sheryl Sandberg, Twitter's Jack Dorsey and LinkedIn's Reid Hoffman." His board of directors, the magazine wrote, was "another power list, with nontech titans like Henry Kravis and David Bonderman, Chase Coleman and steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal's son Aditya." Real-estate billionaires such as Sam Zell and Li Ka-shing had gained access through the firm to startups that "Makan & Co. advertise as being 'approved by Zuckerberg.'" In 2014 the firm had "full discretion over $1.4 billion in client funds" and advised "on another $7.6 billion," and its "$500 million Strategic Partners fund" was "Makan's flagship among 39 private investment vehicles."2
By December 31, 2025, ICONIQ reported about 85.8 billion dollars of discretionary and 31.7 billion dollars of non-discretionary assets under management, and stated that it generally worked with managed-account clients "with net worths of $25,000,000 or more." An affiliate of Blue Owl Capital held a passive minority stake in the firm.1
Good Ventures
Makan is listed as a director of the Good Ventures Foundation, without pay, alongside its president and board chair Cari Tuna and her husband Moskovitz, its secretary and treasurer, on the foundation's returns filed from 2023 to 2026. The foundation reported total assets of 10,107,955,038 dollars on the return it filed on May 15, 2026.3
