[Cap Kressop](/people/cap-kressop/) was a "technical wizard" and a Mormon. He was a client of attorney [Allan Boyak](/people/allan-boyak/). Kressop was approached by [Robert Booth Nichols](/people/robert-booth-nichols/) and asked to manufacture a prototype laser site for a rifle. He was offered a $200,000 contract for the job but became suspicious when Nichols wanted to pay him in cash.[^1]
