Major [Abdul Salam Jalloud](/people/abdul-salam-jalloud/) was the right-hand man of [Col. Muammar Qaddafi](/people/muammar-qaddafi/) of [Libya](/places/libya/). He visited [Iran](/places/iran/) to present [Qaddafi's](/people/muammar-qaddafi/) congratulations to the new regime after the [Iranian Revolution](/events/iranian-revolution/).[^1]

During his visit, [Jalloud](/people/abdul-salam-jalloud/) was questioned by his [Iranian](/places/iran/) hosts about the fate of [Sheikh Mussa Sadr](/people/sheikh-mussa-sadr/), a Shi'ite leader from southern [Lebanon](/places/lebanon/), who had disappeared on a visit to [Libya](/places/libya/) in 1978. The [Libyans](/places/libya/) were believed to have killed [Sadr](/people/sheikh-mussa-sadr/) for preaching Shi'ite Islam. [Jalloud](/people/abdul-salam-jalloud/) was not allowed to leave [Iran](/places/iran/) for three weeks until [Qaddafi](/people/muammar-qaddafi/) personally intervened and spoke to [Khomeini](/people/ayatollah-ruhollah-khomeini/).[^1]
