Tutogen Medical, Inc., of Paterson, New Jersey, was a tissue processor that bought tissue from [Biomedical Tissue Services](/organizations/biomedical-tissue-services/), the company of [Michael Mastromarino](/people/michael-mastromarino/). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it was one of five processors that received BTS tissue directly and recalled it in September and October 2005.[^1] According to the *New York Daily News,* bones taken from the body of the broadcaster [Alistair Cooke](/people/alistair-cooke/) were sold for more than 7,000 dollars to Tutogen and [Regeneration Technologies](/organizations/regeneration-technologies/).[^2] In 2008 the Associated Press reported that the processors that had bought from BTS faced hundreds of civil suits from recipients.[^3] On February 27, 2008, Tutogen completed its merger with Regeneration Technologies, in a transaction valued at about 205 million dollars, to form RTI Biologics, Inc.[^4]
