The Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn is an educational institution in the [United States](/places/united-states/). In 1940, [Herman F. Mark](/people/herman-f-mark/) was running a laboratory there, and two years later he became dean of faculty, turning the institute into a haven for Jewish refugees, including [Chaim Weizmann](/people/chaim-weizmann/) and [Ernst David Bergmann](/people/ernst-david-bergmann/).[^1]
