LifeCell Corporation was a tissue processor that bought tissue from [Biomedical Tissue Services](/organizations/biomedical-tissue-services/), the company of [Michael Mastromarino](/people/michael-mastromarino/). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it was one of five processors that received BTS tissue directly and recalled it in September and October 2005, the others being [Regeneration Technologies](/organizations/regeneration-technologies/), [Tutogen Medical](/organizations/tutogen-medical/), the Central Texas Regional Blood and Tissue Center, and the [Lost Mountain Tissue Bank](/organizations/lost-mountain-tissue-bank/).[^1] In 2008 the Associated Press reported that the processors to which BTS had shipped bones, skin and tendons, among them LifeCell, faced hundreds of civil suits from people who had received the tissue in transplants.[^2]
