The [Institute of Noetic Science](/organizations/institute-of-noetic-science/) (IONS) is an American nonprofit parapsychological research institute. It was founded by former Apollo 14 astronaut [Edgar Mitchell](/people/edgar-mitchell/), a known psi enthusiast. In the context of the *Remote Viewers* narrative, the Institute provided a grant that funded [Andrija Puharich](/people/andrija-puharich/)'s efforts to bring [Uri Geller](/people/uri-geller/) to America in 1972 for scientific testing at [SRI](/organizations/stanford-research-institute/).[^1]
