Burns & Roe, Inc. was an international engineering and construction corporation. It was a family corporation owned by [Kenneth A. Roe](/people/kenneth-a-roe/) and his family. [George K. Pender](/people/george-k-pender/) was a former Director of the Pacific Ocean area for Burns & Roe, Inc., and also served as a Senior Engineer Consultant to the company.[^1]

Under [Kenneth A. Roe](/people/kenneth-a-roe/)'s leadership, Burns & Roe, Inc. was involved in major projects, including the engineering design and construction of the [U.S.A.](/places/united-states/) Fast Breeder Nuclear Reactor Plant in conjunction with [Westinghouse Electric Corporation](/organizations/westinghouse-electric-corporation/), which was responsible for the nuclear system supply of steam.
