The Geneva Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy was a major international scientific conference held in Geneva in 1955. More than fifteen hundred delegates from seventy nations, including [Israel](/places/israel/), whose delegation was led by [Ernst David Bergmann](/people/ernst-david-bergmann/), took part. [Lewis L. Strauss](/people/lewis-l-strauss/) publicly joined the Israeli delegation in prayer during this conference, despite his private feelings about Zionism.[^1]
