In the context of the [Stargate Project](/programs/stargate-project/), this technique was reportedly used by [Ken Bell](/people/ken-bell/) to gain information from a [KGB](/organizations/kgb/) agent in South Africa. Bell allegedly whispered telepathically about the agent's son and daughter, which led the agent to reveal details about a hidden pocket calculator used for coding messages.[^1]

This incident, while controversial, was considered a significant success by some within the [CIA](/organizations/central-intelligence-agency/) and the [FBI](/organizations/federal-bureau-of-investigation/), demonstrating the potential utility of psychic abilities in counterintelligence operations.[^1]
