*Siege* was the newsletter that [James Mason](/people/james-mason/) wrote for the National Socialist Liberation Front, a group rooted in a 1970s periodical of Joseph Tommasi, from 1980 to 1986. Its essays argued that democratic institutions were too corrupt to reform and had to be destroyed by terrorism, that lone attackers were harder to infiltrate and prosecute than groups, and that tensions should be escalated until a race war became unavoidable.[^1] Mason drew on the "leaderless resistance" of Louis Beam.[^2]

### The Book

After Mason had failed for years to find a publisher, Michael J. Moynihan set up the Storm Books imprint and in 1992 published the collected essays as *Siege: The Collected Writings of James Mason*. Tom Metzger praised and distributed it; the rest of the neo-Nazi movement largely ignored or criticized it, and it stayed marginal for about two decades.[^2]

### Revival

From 2015 members of the [Iron March](/organizations/iron-march/) forum promoted the book, and [Atomwaffen Division](/organizations/atomwaffen-division/), announced there by [Brandon Russell](/people/brandon-russell/) on October 12, 2015, made it required reading.[^3][^4] Mason made his first documented in-person appearance with the group at the [2019 AWD Nuclear Congress](/events/2019-awd-nuclear-congress/) in [Las Vegas](/places/las-vegas/), which was organized by the paid [FBI](/organizations/federal-bureau-of-investigation/) informant [Joshua Caleb Sutter](/people/joshua-caleb-sutter/).[^5] A study published by the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism in 2022 found 33 extremist entities with documented ties to *Siege*, nine of them involved in violence and four in murders, and quoted Europol: "*Siege* and Accelerationism, both with significant potential for inciting violence, were the most prominent ideologies in 2021, especially attracting young people radicalised online."[^1] The [Terrorgram Collective](/organizations/terrorgram-collective/) treated it as a foundational text.[^6]

The book has turned up in the material of attackers. The manifesto package of the attacker in the [2024 Eskisehir Mosque Stabbing](/events/2024-eskisehir-mosque-stabbing/) in Turkey included it, together with Ted Kaczynski's manifesto.[^7] The 75-page manifesto of [Cain Clark](/people/cain-clark/) and [Caleb Vazquez](/people/caleb-vazquez/), who [attacked the Islamic Center of San Diego](/events/2026-islamic-center-of-san-diego-shooting/) in May 2026, called *Siege* and *The Turner Diaries* works that "should be read almost biblically by all soldiers of the white race."[^8]
