The Walton Hop Disco was an underage nightclub that served as a procurement center for a suspected pedophile ring involving [[BBC]] celebrities during the 1970s and 1980s. According to investigations, BBC celebrities allegedly procured boys and girls from this venue as part of an organized network that operated within the British entertainment industry. The disco was located in [[Walton-on-Thames]] and became infamous for its role in facilitating child abuse by prominent media figures of the era.[^1] ### Connection to Operation Arundel and BBC Network The Walton Hop Disco was central to [[Operation Arundel]], which was launched in 2001 as the first formal investigation into a BBC child abuse ring. Operation Arundel emerged from earlier investigations into [[Chris Denning]] and [[Jonathan King]], both former BBC Radio One DJs who were convicted of sex crimes against children. The investigation into King and Denning in the early 2000s led to Operation Arundel, which specifically focused on the suspected pedophile ring of BBC celebrities in the 1970s and 1980s who allegedly procured boys and girls from the Walton Hop Disco. This investigation represented the first systematic attempt by authorities to uncover the organized nature of child abuse within the BBC and its associated entertainment networks.[^1] Key figures connected to the Walton Hop Disco investigation included Chris Denning, who according to Czech police was head of an international pedophile network running a child porn operation from his Prague apartment, and Jonathan King, who was convicted in 2001 of multiple counts of child sexual abuse against boys. Another suspect in the Operation Arundel investigation who was never arrested or charged had been a good friend and colleague of both Denning and King, BBC Radio One DJ [[Jimmy Savile]]. The connections between these figures and the Walton Hop Disco suggested a coordinated network of abuse that operated across different BBC programs and venues throughout the 1970s and 1980s.[^1] ### Investigation Outcomes and Legacy Operation Arundel led to the arrest of another BBC personality in 2003, but the charges against them were subsequently dropped. Jimmy Savile, despite being identified as a suspect in the investigation, was never arrested or charged in connection with the Walton Hop Disco or the broader pedophile ring allegations. The case was closed and forgotten about for nearly a decade, until after Jimmy Savile's death in October 2011 when the floodgate of allegations against him opened. First a few, then many, and finally too many to ignore, leading to the launch of [[Operation Yewtree]], which investigated accusations of a highly organized pedophile ring at the BBC that included not only its famous personalities but operational level employees too.[^1] ### Footnotes [^1]: Dovey, S.
