Martin Smollners was a particularly sadistic pedophile and client of [[Lothar Glandorf]]'s child trafficking operation who murdered a boy in 1986. Smollners represented the most extreme and violent end of the child exploitation spectrum, engaging not only in child abuse but also in producing torture pornography. [^1] The investigation into Lothar Glandorf's operations revealed that Smollners had rented a boy from Glandorf's brothels specifically to use in the production of torture pornography. The specific torture method described involved wiring the boy's testicles to a generator and slowly increasing the electrical current. [^1] As a client of Lothar Glandorf's operation, Martin Smollners was part of a sophisticated international child trafficking network that smuggled boys from Eastern Europe into brothels in Rotterdam. Glandorf operated brothels called "[[Euro Boys]]" and "[[Young Boys]]" where he pimped out these children to VIP clients and child pornographers. [^1] The investigation revealed that Glandorf had also sold boys to British child pornographers operating in Amsterdam, though this information was apparently never shared with Scotland Yard. ### Legal Proceedings and Conviction Martin Smollners was convicted for the 1986 murder of a boy. His conviction occurred separately from the legal proceedings against Lothar Glandorf, who was convicted and sent to prison in November 1995. [^1] The investigation into Glandorf's operation received renewed attention in 1998 when details of the classified HIK report were aired by the Dutch TV news network NCRV. This media exposure led to increased scrutiny of the case and questions about why the investigation had been handled the way it was. However, by this time, Smollners had already been convicted for his crimes, and the focus shifted to understanding how such networks could operate for so long without effective intervention.
