Cyril Smith was a former Liberal MP for Rochdale who was posthumously exposed as a serial violent sexual abuser of boys in 2013. Knighted as Sir Cyril Smith, he died approximately two years before November 2012, with his parliamentary seat later held by MP Simon Danczuk. Smith's exposure occurred after his death when multiple men came forward claiming they were abused by him in Rochdale during the 1960s, with allegations that had supposedly been covered up for almost 50 years. The scale and duration of his abuse activities, combined with his prominent political position, made him one of the most significant figures in the UK VIP pedophile network that operated across several decades.[^1] ### Elm Guest House Connections and VIP Network Smith was confirmed to have been a frequent visitor to the [[Elm Guest House]], a suburban townhouse near central London that operated as an illegal brothel with connections to organized child abuse. His name appeared in records from the Elm Guest House sign-in book that were leaked online, among files that included names of various MPs and VIPs. These records became crucial evidence in [[Operation Fernbridge]], launched by Metropolitan police in February 2013, where Smith became one of the targets. The investigation focused on historical allegations of child abuse by VIPs at the Elm Guest House, with Smith connected to other high-profile figures including [[Leon Brittan]], [[Ronald Brown]], [[Harvey Proctor]], [[Anthony Blunt]], and [[Colin Peters]], all of whom were named in the Elm Guest House sign-in book under alleged monikers.[^1] MP Simon Danczuk challenged Home Secretary Theresa May to launch an investigation into allegations that an "establishment coverup" prevented claims that Sir Cyril Smith was a child abuser from being revealed for almost 50 years. Danczuk specifically asked for "an inquiry into the handling of a police investigation into the activities of the former Liberal MP." The evidence suggested that Smith's political connections and status provided him with protection from prosecution for decades, allowing his abuse to continue unchecked.[^1] ### International Connections and Investigations Smith's connections extended beyond the UK to international child trafficking networks, particularly in [[Amsterdam]]. He was allegedly connected to [[Dolphin Square]] flats near Westminster, where boys were taken "to have sex with VIPs and MPs." There were claims that Smith was present during an incident where "a boy died during an orgy which was being filmed" in Amsterdam. Smith was linked to [[Warwick Spinks]], a violent pedophile who was jailed for sexual offenses on boys and who allegedly arranged tours to Amsterdam where he ran brothels, including the Blue Boy bar.[^1] Evidence emerged suggesting Smith had been protected at the highest levels of British security services. He was allegedly arrested in the mid-1980s for possession of child pornography found in the trunk of his car by Northamptonshire police. An investigation by journalist Donald Hale found evidence suggesting "Smith had made a phone call from custody and was soon released without charge upon intervention by MI5."[^1] ### Footnotes [^1]: Dovey, S.
