[[Glen Heggstad]] is a local businessman who founded Coachella Valley Judo and Jiu-Jitsu in Palm Desert. He is also a self-proclaimed former [[Hells Angels]] biker. According to the State Attorney General's office, [[Jimmy Hughes]] offered to hire Heggstad to murder Alvarez, who was going to "blow the whistle" on illegal weapons manufacturing deals signed off by Cabazon tribal leadership. Heggstad claimed he cooperated with detectives, telling them Hughes told him that he had murdered Alvarez, but Heggstad denied any involvement in the plot to kill three people.[^1]
Heggstad is also known as an adventure rider and author of the book *Two Wheels Through Terror*, which chronicles his experience of being captured and tortured by Colombian Rebels during a cross-continent motorcycle ride. He was featured in a *National Geographic Channel* segment about his 2001 escape from [[Colombia]].[^1]
After being accused of murder conspiracy, Heggstad provided [[Nathan Baca]] with a book he had written, autographed with a note urging Baca to seek the truth and keep an open mind, as "just because a cop or prosecutor says something, doesn't make it true."[^1]
