Sidney Cooke led a gang of murderous pedophiles known as the "Dirty Dozen" who were convicted of the abduction, rape, and murder of three boys during the 1980s. They were suspected to have killed up to twenty more victims. Cooke and three others were specifically convicted for these crimes. One of Cooke's known victims was 14-year-old Jason Swift, who was murdered in Hackney, east London, in 1985. Swift was sexually abused and strangled during a male orgy. It was rumored that Jason's killing had been filmed, but no copies of a video were ever found.[^1]
### Criminal Activities and Investigations
Scotland Yard investigated the possibility that Sidney Cooke and his gang had produced films of the deaths of boys during orgies held at a flat in east London. This investigation was closely linked to the murder of Jason Swift. The inquiry was launched after a British man arrested in [[Amsterdam]] in 1989 claimed such a film existed, and Scotland Yard suspected nine other kids were murdered in this way. During the 1980s, Scotland Yard conducted an investigation into Sidney Cooke called "Operation Orchid." During this investigation, it was learned that one of Cooke's accomplices, Lennie Smith, had been a rent boy in the West End thought to have been linked to the [[Elm Guest House]].[^1]
When detectives checked the original case files in 2014 to see if any further links between Cooke's gang and the Elm Guest House had been discovered, they found the files pertaining to that aspect of the investigation were missing. The Operation Orchid files weren't the only ones to go missing. It was also learned that the dossier [[Geoffrey Dickens]] handed over to [[Leon Brittan]] in 1983 had since been either lost or destroyed by the Home Office. Because [[Leon Brittan]] had been the minister in charge of overseeing domestic intelligence agencies at that time, it was soon suspected that past investigations into an alleged VIP pedophile ring had been covered-up by MI5. In 2014, detectives re-examining the case of [[Vishal Mehrotra]] learned that Cooke's gang had been looked at as suspects in the murder.[^1]
### VIP Network and International Connections
According to research by Kevin Allen, there had been a private chauffeur company used by the Australian High Commission to hire stand-in drivers on occasion. This company had a number of convicted pedophiles on its payroll, including at one time Sidney Cooke, whose gang the "[[Dirty Dozen]]" would later be convicted and jailed for the torture and murder of three young boys in the 80s. Cooke and his pedophile cohort were understood to be some of the drivers who would pick up young care-home boys and rent boys in expensive cars and deliver them to organized orgies in Barnes, Pimlico and Kensington. Cooke was employed by the same chauffeur company that was investigated after the 1979 disappearance of [[Martin Allen]], the son of the personal chauffeur to the Australian High Commissioner.[^1]
The investigation into Cooke's suspected snuff films later became a joint-investigation with Dutch authorities in 1992 and 1993, targeting British foreign nationals in Amsterdam. This coincided with other international child pornography investigations involving [[Francis Shelden]] and other British nationals. The international scope of Cooke's activities connects to broader child trafficking networks operating between the UK and European child sex hotspots like [[Amsterdam]], where other pedophiles such as [[Warwick Spinks]] were known to operate.
