[[Shahpour Bakhtiar]] was the last prime minister appointed by [[Mohammad Reza Pahlavi|the Shah]] of [[Iran]], serving as a compromise with the opposition. He was a supporter of [[Mohammed Mossadegh]] and a member of the National Front.[^1]
After [[Mohammad Reza Pahlavi|the Shah's]] departure from [[Iran]] in January 1979, [[Shahpour Bakhtiar|Bakhtiar]] proved unable to function effectively. Following [[Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini|Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's]] arrival in [[Iran]] on February 1, 1979, [[Shahpour Bakhtiar|Bakhtiar]] went into hiding ten days later and eventually found exile in [[Paris]], [[France]]. He was assassinated in [[Paris]] in 1991.[^1]
